Hunter’s Creek student goes from rebel to role model

Home of A Bright Spot Winner

Fourteen-year-old Mia Freitas first came to Renaissance Charter School at Hunter’s Creek with an attitude problem. She came from a school where she would skip class and a home where she constantly argued with her father on chores and homework. Although teachers at Hunter’s Creek believed she would grow and mature, they wondered how long it would take for her to settle in.

Now, she considers her new school like family.

“I began to realize that people were kind here,” she said. “I began to see it’s like a big family. It’s not about being popular, it’s about learning to respect others.”
