Duval Charter School at Westside Students Raise Money to Support Buddy Bus Initiative

JACKSONVILLE, FL (Nov. 7, 2018) – The National Junior Honor Society and Student Government Association at Duval Charter School at Westside (DCSW) raised money in support of Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Buddy Bus initiative during Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Students and teachers donated money to dress in pink socks and shirts during the month of October. Overall, donations totaled $363 to support the purchase of the Buddy Bus.

The Buddy Bus, a mobile mammography unit, will support the Jacksonville area by way of Baptist MD Anderson. The self-contained unit provides early breast cancer detection, using state-of-the-art digital mammography screening services. The vehicle will be staffed with experienced, registered mammography technologist and radiologist who specialize in breast imaging.

Tiffany Amaker, technology teacher, Jennifer Albertson, dean of discipline and Mary Wilson, student services, served as fundraiser sponsors for the student-led organizations. Tania Woods is the principal for Duval Charter School at Westside, which has operated on the city’s Westside since 2013.
