K-8 school scheduled to open as a K-6 in the fall of 2018

Orlando, FLA (Nov.15, 2017) – Construction is now underway for a new two-story charter school located on nearly 10 acres at 4780 Data Court in Orlando. Renaissance Charter School at Central Florida, a 68,152-square-foot building will ultimately house 1,145 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The tuition-free public charter school, which is governed by Renaissance Charter School, Inc., will open in the fall of 2018 initially for kindergarten through sixth grade, adding seventh and eighth grades in subsequent years.

Red Apple Development has contracted with Summit Construction Management Group as general contractor. When completed, the school will feature: 49 classrooms, a multi-purpose room, two art, science, computer and music rooms, an exterior playfield, basketball court and tot lot. The builder will use tilt-up construction which is scheduled to begin in mid-November. For this type of construction, cement walls are fully built in concrete forms, then tilted up to create walls. A fully-formed building is erected typically within a couple of days. A carefully designed multi-lane car-loop will be included to minimize local traffic congestion and make drop-off and pick-up easy for parents.

“We are very excited to bring this new school to Orange County,” said Richard Page, Chief Impact Officer at Charter Schools USA, the educational management company selected by Renaissance Charter School, Inc. to manage the school. “This provides a high quality educational option for faculty and students at UCF as well as the entire surrounding area. This will be the sixth school we’ve opened in Orange County and we look forward to continuing to serve the needs of families here.”

Enrollment is scheduled to open on Dec. 1, 2017 and we accept all students. Charter schools are public schools and follow the same enrollment criteria as all public schools in the state of Florida. For more information, visit www.RECScentralflorida.org.
