Originally from Fort Lauderdale, FL, Gray attended Dillard High School, which is nationally recognized for its football program, where he gained recognition for football, basketball and baseball. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and is working toward his master’s degree in Sports Administration from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL, where he lettered in football for three years and holds all career passing records at the university. He was also named to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference First Team and was named 2001 MEAC Player of the Year by the 100% Club of Washington, D.C.
After college, he was signed to an undrafted free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he spent five seasons. In 2003, he was allocated to FNL Europe where he led the Frankfurt Galaxy to the World Bowl XI Championship. After leaving the Jaguars, Gray spent the 2008 preseason with the Indianapolis Colts and the regular season with the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2009, Gray spent the season in the newly played United Football League.
“My goal for every student athlete is to prepare them on and off the field to be ready for college and beyond,” said Gray. “I truly believe that the discipline required to excel in sports must be mirrored in each student’s academic life in order for them to succeed on every level.”
“We are very excited to have Coach Gray on our team,” said Kimberly Stidham, principal of Duval Charter High School at Baymeadows. “His varied and storied background will give our students a deep understanding of the importance of combining excellence in sports with excellence in the classroom to achieve greatness.”
