Congratulations on taking the first step to providing your child a great education! The process to apply for a charter school can be a little different than others. As a result, we have provided a list of the most common questions regarding open enrollment and the lottery process.
When is the Open Enrollment period/window?
For existing schools, the Open Enrollment window begins January 1st and closes February 28th. The Open Enrollment window for new schools typically begins February 12th and closes March 30th. This information is provided on each school’s website.
Is your school still accepting applications?
Yes! Our school continues to accept applications throughout the year. Based on seat availability, applicants will either be offered a seat or will be placed on the waiting list. When seats become available throughout the year, the school Registrar will offer seats to applicants in the order in which they are listed on the waiting list. At the end of the year, if your child is still interested in attending our school but has not received an offer, you must submit a new application for your child, during or after the next open enrollment period.
How do I apply?
We have a very simple application process. Go to www.charterschoolsusa.com, under the “Our Schools” link and select the school you would like to have your child attend. From there, click the “Apply Now” button and follow the prompted steps. You can also go directly to the school’s website and apply online. You will receive a confirmation when your application is accepted.
I entered an application for my child, but I haven’t heard anything. Where is my child in the enrollment process?
After open enrollment closes, we determine if a lottery is needed for each grade. You will either receive an offer letter immediately, if no lottery is needed, or a random number for your lottery. After the lottery is complete, if your child’s number is drawn, you will receive an offer letter. A list of lottery numbers of those who were accepted will be posted on the website. If your child’s lottery number was not drawn, your child will be placed on a waiting list. Should a seat become available for your applicant, you will receive an offer via email, depending on the communication preferences that you selected on the application. If you do not hear anything from us, it is safe to assume that your applicant remains on the waiting list. The school keeps its waiting lists throughout the year, so it is possible to receive an offer at any point during the school year.
What is a Lottery?
After open enrollment closes, if there are more applications than seats available, a random lottery will be held. If your child is involved in a lottery, you will be notified by email of the lottery process. You will receive a random lottery number and a date will be determined for the lottery to be held. All winning lottery numbers will be posted on the school’s website.
How can I access the Registration/Enrollment packet?
Registration/Enrollment packets are available to you after you’ve been offered a seat and have accepted the offer. If there is no lottery needed, you will receive an offer letter. In this letter, you will receive specific instructions and timelines for acceptance. Once you accept your child’s invitation to attend our school, you will be issued a username/password to access all necessary registration and enrollment documents directly from our website.
In order to confirm your plans for attendance and secure your child’s seat, you will need to complete and submit the following forms within two weeks (14 days) of your acceptance:
–Dress Code Agreement
–Internet Use & Promotion Form
–Photograph & Video Release Permission Form
Please note: If these forms are not submitted, your child’s acceptance will be rescinded and offered to another applicant.
