AVENTURA, Fla (Oct. 1, 2018) – The City of Aventura announces the beginning of the application process for Don Soffer Aventura High School, set to open in August 2019. The school will accept ninth grade students in its first year and will add grades 10 through 12 in subsequent years. Because Don Soffer Aventura High School is a municipal charter school, residents of Aventura are given preference for enrollment. Parents can apply on line on the school’s website at www.Aventuracharterhs.org. The application process ends on October 31, 2018. A lottery will be held in early November if the City receives more than 200 applications. Results will be posted on the school’s website.
The 53,418-square-foot school and 10,250-square-foot gymnasium will be situated on two acres at 3151 NE 213th St, Aventura, FL 33180. It will include 28 classrooms, a music room, drama room, art room with kiln, multipurpose room, science lab and classrooms and computer labs. Additionally, it will house an innovation lab that is STEM focused with 3D printers and Makers Spaces. Notably, the school also includes a collaboration room with flexible furniture designs and challenge-based learning environments. This room will also be available for teacher professional development and collaborative teacher planning.
Students attending Don Soffer Aventura High School will have an opportunity to earn college credits and industry certifications. They will gain exposure to a wide-range of specialty areas including liberal arts, technology, biomedical, advanced studies and more. Additionally, students will be able to select Academic Pathways including, Advanced Placement Capstone Diploma, Advanced Placement courses, Cambridge International courses and Biomedical and technology Academies based on their future career outlook.
