Jefferson Charter Foundation Applies for Two Schools
Board members are introduced
Jefferson Parish, LA (Oct. 13, 2011) – The Jefferson Charter Foundation, Inc. has taken the next steps in establishing a new charter school in Jefferson Parish. The non-profit corporation, organized in September, submitted final charter applications on Oct. 7, 2011 to the Jefferson Parish Public School System. The Jefferson Parish Public School System requested applications to bring high quality charter schools to Jefferson Parish in order to expand school choice and provide additional positive outcomes for children. The Foundation’s proposed new schools are: West Jefferson Charter Academy and East Jefferson Charter Academy.
The new board is led by Board President Michael Palamone, the CEO and managing partner of Urban Systems Associates. The other board members include: Vice President Todd Murphy, senior vice president of Iberia Bank; Secretary/Treasurer Ronnie Slone, president of The Slone Group; Trustee Todd Villarrubia, Esq., attorney with Livaccari, Villarrubia, Lemmon, LLC and Trustee Charlotte Molony, faculty member of the School of Business at the University of Phoenix in New Orleans.
The board has selected Charter Schools USA, one of the nation’s largest and most successful education service providers, to manage the operations of the schools once the applications are approved.
“We are very excited to begin the process of bringing more high-performing educational choices to Jefferson Parish,” said Palamone. “In addition to some of the excellent traditional public schools we have in the area, the Jefferson Parish School Board has demonstrated a desire to bring innovation and raise academic achievement levels for all children, particularly those students who are at-risk.”
